“Romero has lived on the outriggers of ‘normal’ while embracing the artist’s life that has been largely disavowed by the new generations.”
– Anonymous, #filmisfearless

A creative wanderer by definition, I have spent a fortunate life among the ranks of the real and worked very hard for every creative endeavor I’ve managed to get afloat.

Having never been raised among the Hollywood Elite of my generation, I was a kid from Pittsburgh who’s dad happened to redefine independent film in 1968 when he made “Night of the Living Dead.”  To me, he was just dad for so many years.  To me, he was this great big giant of a man who the world seemed to hold with a certain esteem.  It wasn’t until much later that I realized the importance of what it was he had done and by that time, I was well on my way to the cursed life of a creative and that created a very confusing time for me.  With a mother who had come from advertising and a father who was… well… George… I felt a need to impress each of them independently and both of them together with every creative project I undertook.  I, of course, learned very quickly that this was no way to find the path to my own voice and so I took the advice of my heroes of literature; I took the advice of Hemingway, Miller, Goethe, Shelley and the like.

I set forth on my own path… one that had no certainty… one that led me without warning down the path of so many artists before me.

For years, I sought to free my creative from the cage that kept it quiet.

For years, I was willing to walk any path, no matter how dark or light, in search of that thing that made me revere my heroes; in search of creative purity.

Along the way, I’ve found my share of successes.  I became a commercial and film director with over 100 commercials and more than 5 feature films under my belt.  I became known for my cutting edge, no bullshit approach that I ultimately applied to top global brands like Verizon Wireless, Sony Electronics and The Lending Tree to name a few.

Hell… I even planned, opened and ran for a number of years, Pittsburgh’s only commercial and film production studio with two dozen full time crew members, a back lot, a soundstage, all the camera, grip and lighting anyone could ever need and the post production facilities for me and my crew to turn out the impossible on a shoestring.

The point of all this is that it wasn’t until I had become mired in what I thought everyone wanted from a Romero that I realized that wasn’t what I wanted from this Romero.

PROJECTS

From his beginnings in the outskirts of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Romero is no stranger to the solitary life of an artist as is evident in all of his films to date.  Every film completed and/or released is a testament to Romero’s history of creating his work without the stigma and restrictions often placed on filmmakers today.

CATALINA FILM FESTIVAL – 2016

I’m absolutely thrilled to announce that I have just been booked to speak on a panel at this year’s Catalina Film Festival.

Details will be forthcoming very soon, but stay tuned because this is one of those things that doesn’t come along often and when it does, I get really excited.

A lot more to come about this year’s Catalina Film Festival!

YOUR OWN PRIVATE FILMMAKER

Romero Pictures is thrilled about the launch of the D2A program.

With the recent breakthroughs in laws regarding the raising of small investments, the internet has been a-boom with different crowd sourcing websites like Kickstarter, IndieGoGo, GoFund Me and countless others and, if you’re like me, you may have tried them once or twice.  If you fall within the tiny percentage of people who achieved their actual goals with a crowdfunding experience and were able to execute your film or “art” project with the funds you raised, then kudos to you!

However, I, like most who have gone down the crowdfunding road was less than impressed.  The rules imposed on the artist and methods and formats used to promote made the whole thing feel douchey and dirty.  The campaigns themselves and those who oversee them have become just another cog in the fucking wheel; another “step” independent artists have been reprogrammed to think is a necessary direction to take their projects.

This is the birth notion of my D2A project and this is the foundation on which I hope I get to build and leave my mark in this industry.

The program is simple.

ROMERO IN COMICS

A long time comic aficionado, Romero is always on the lookout for great new entries into the aggressive and creatively wide open world of comics.

Recently, Romero’s friend of more than a decade, Rob Mulligan, has managed to pull together one of the coolest, in-your-face comic series Romero has ever enjoyed as much as MULLIGAN.

“I’m really proud to present Mulligan to the world.  Rob has done a stellar job putting together a story I think people are going to love and a unique visual style that just makes every frame pop… it’s really beautiful.”

Y’KNOW… FOR KIDS

Romero’s work with Rob Mulligan has proven creatively satisfying time and time again; and this time was no different.

Li’l Mulligan written by Romero to be a message for kids everywhere about the power and strength that eventually comes with being different in the way we look at the world.

The story of Li’l Mulligan takes place over years and teaches readers the importance of patience, accountability and strength of character.

Romero is quoted as saying “I was with a friend for lunch who had children and as I watched them play, I realized they weren’t playing cops and robbers like we used to when I was a kid… they were playing humans vs. zombies.”

We have tried to create a children’s concept for the new generations to come!

ROMERO IN GAMES

As a follow up to what has arguably called one of the worst games in PC gaming history, Sergey Titov (“War Z”) approached Romero about not only endorsing, but also creatively contributing to the physics and rule base for the game in regard to the development of the creatures and in terms of returning them to the familiar Romero Style ghouls made famous by his father.

ROMERO IN GUINESS

In September of 2015, Romero de-planed in Portland, Oregon as a guest of honor at the first Portland Film Festival where his visit culminated with a shoot of proportions not seen on the fringe level in Portland, maybe ever.  More than 3,000 Portlandians turned up to play ball and populate Romero’s zombie apocalypse short film done to support the efforts of the Portland Film Festival and raise awareness in regard to the power of the independent.

Romero made history and landed in the Guiness Book of Records for directing a scene with the most extras in a short film in history.
